The technique comes first... because when you master a technique, self-expression is automatic.

Angela Pau is a British born fiber artist based in Southern California. Self taught, her work is informed by the surrounding nature and the materials themselves, their texture, colors, weight and hand. Pieces are woven on a tapestry loom, rigid heddle loom or entirely by hand utilizing techniques from macrame, crochet and knitting. The slow, meditative nature of one-of-a-kind weavings provide a contrast to our fast paced modern life and mass produced goods. She strives to use only minimally processed, natural fibers honoring the materials and embracing the beauty of imperfection.

Using almost exclusively natural fibers helps maintain the connection to nature. The majority of the cotton is recycled from post-consumer garment fibers and most wool is left un-dyed  or minimally processed wherever possible. Along with cotton and wool, linen, jute and hemp also feature widely in her work.
